Endowed Chair in Experimental Sensor Physics

Wright State University, in partnership with a consortium of Ohio universities, has received a $4.1 million award from the State of Ohio's Third Frontier Program to establish a Research Cluster in Layered Sensing. This cluster will perform research and development in sensor science and technology and invest aggressively in senior and junior research talent, capital facilities, and equipment.

As a part of this program, Wright State University is recruiting a distinguished senior experimentalist for the WSU Ohio Research Scholar endowed chair in the area of terahertz sensing. The position filled will be at the associate professor level, or higher as dictated by experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will have substantial resources available including a significant level of start-up funds and will interact with our physics and engineering faculty involved in sensing, imaging, and spectroscopy. This includes collaborating with the existing terahertz research groups at WSU. This will involve participating in the search for an additional Assistant Professor position for the research cluster. Further information about this position is available on the Wright State University's website.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree or the equivalent in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, must have a distinguished research record commensurate with the level of Associate Professor or Professor, and the potential for excellence in teaching. The focus of this position will be establishing an exceptional research effort in a collaborative environment while maintaining an interaction with industry and the community. In accord with this emphasis are reduced teaching responsibilities. The position will be affiliated with the Department of Physics and the Department of Electrical Engineering with the possibility of joint appointments. Due to the nature of the funding associated with this position, only candidates residing outside of the state of Ohio will be considered.

Review of applications will begin on January 5, 2009 and will continue until the position is filled. Candidates should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, brief statements of research plans and teaching philosophy and include contact information for at least three references. Questions about this position should be directed to Associate Professor Doug Petkie, Department of Physics, Wright State University (thz-physics@wright.edu). Application materials may be submitted electronically to thz-physics@wright.edu (preferred) or via mail to:
